It is a bit of a faff to set up, but this is how to set up the system I use on my netbook, as that is the only Win machine I use away from home, (although I now usually use a lightweight Chromebook or Nexus tablet when seeing clients).

For all other PCs & laptops I just use the Win 10 settings, to notify when updates are available, and also I turned on the option to copy/share the update files between machines on our network.

Thanks for the pointer. I'm asking more technically knowledgeable people in Windows Forums on CIS if they'd look at what it does and maybe try it since it refers to stuff I know less than nothing about!

Is that without using this add-on? I have Pro but didn't see that option anywhere in the Settings for Update in Windows 10 Pro 32 bit but with a new layout and vocabulary it's all to easy to miss where things are located.

In my Win 10 Home 64bit it is in Settings - Update and Security - Advanced options

I have mixed impressions of Win 10. My own production computer will stay on 7. I have no desire to futz with what is working. I have had some clients upgrade from 7 or 8 with hardly a problem. A couple have needed help finding a driver or two from the vendor website. Four or five have had software they rely on fail after the upgrade, including an older version of Quickbooks. In every case, a quick return to 7 fixed them.

For those who absolutely do not want to upgrade go to this page and download GWX Control Panel. It will kill the Win 10 upgrade for good (or until Microsoft patches in a new upgrade tool).

All that said, I have 10 on a new laptop and no issues there. But I never had much of an issue with Win 8 or 8.1 after installing a start menu.

Looking at the title just now I was reminded of the time I was in a hat store and one of the straw hats labels didn't have a size. Instead it said "One Size Fits All." I tried it on. It didn't fit.
