Default And even more about tablets - Dell Venue 8 Pro: 8-inch Windows 8.1 Tablet Costs $299

This is patched together from a couple of messages I posted on CompuServe in the last couple of days. Sorry not to totally integrate it!

============================================

This is going to start something interesting ....

Dell Venue 8 Pro: 8-inch Windows 8.1 Tablet Costs $299

That is Windows Pro .... the full version running standard applications for $100 more than buying Windows 8.1 media !

And one report says that includes Office 2013 .......

There's also an 11-inch Pro ...

PS -- Just found this blog

http://blog.laptopmag.com/dell-venue-8-pro-hands-on

Some things he doesn't like (why do those always get labeled "flaws"? <g>) but let's see ...

======

Here's some more factual data on the Pro 11

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2425163,00.asp

Starts at $499 ....

There's a lot more out there about these today compared with yesterday including an Anantech review.

Do a Google on [ dell venue8 pro ]

<< Convert your Dell Venue™ 11 Pro into a laptop with the Dell Tablet Mobile Keyboard or expand to a full desktop solution with the Dell Tablet Desktop Dock
Dell Active Stylus makes it easy to annotate, draw or take notes.
Dell Slim Keyboard, designed for travel, also serves as a cover for the screen when folded up.
Dell Mobile Keyboard with integrated battery provides all day productivity with a full-sized keyboard while extending the battery life.
Dell Tablet Desktop Dock delivers full productivity on a desk with USB 3.0 ports, and dual display out ports for display extension. >>
Here's a link to Dell's Venue 11 Pro pdf leaflet with full tech specs on the back side.

And a link to their announcement check the News tab as well.

Digital Trends likes that it has a user-removable battery with 17 hours life.

Just tried to find the tablet at Dell and I can't find it--guess it won't be there until the 18th. Looks somewhat interesting from the linked articles. I'm not sure I understand the issue of where Dell placed the start button as I figure one could just load Classic Shell to get a real Start button...

The AnandTech article and the comments have a lot of good info--given that everything is pre-release...

It's not listed via the usual product pages yet so far as I can see but:
<< And a link to their announcement check the News tab as well. >>
then scrolling down and clicking on the view the brochure links gives as much direct Dell as I can find.

Yeah...I checked out that link but I wanted to see if there were more details at dell.com and there really isn't anything there about the new stuff--I thought there might be since the 18th is not that far off and that they might let people pre-order but...I guess not...'-}}

Ah. So "Pro" in Dellsprach means "Runs Windows" where "" means it's Android.

BTW, I passed the links to a friend who's in the throes of tablet-envy. Got cussed out for making her life harder. Too many OPTIONS! ;-)
