Default Acrobat 7 and Word documents

Last Thursday I installed the upgrade to Acrobat 7 Pro and confidently sought to have it transform a Word document that I had just slightly amended. It took me until this afternoon to do it, although the the unamended document had been previously been transformed into a PDF by Acrobat 6 without difficulty.

PDF Maker went through nearly all the motions of working correctly, but didn't actually do anything. I found a message on an Adobe forum protesting about about similar difficulties with Acrobat 7 (but with documents much longer than mine); the protester was given the advice to 'uncheck a few options'. In the end I did do that—uncheck some options—, and Acrobat 7 did work then: but now I have a PDF document with a purely passive TOC (I hate that!).

It seems that Adobe has not done well in abandoning its PDFMaker.dot in favour of a badly-written DLL.
