Default CorelDraw Font Problem ..

.. been a long time since I've been here; glad the DTF is still around!!

Just loaded up CorelDraw X3 on a Win7 machine and everything seems to be working OK ... except some fonts apperar to be giving me a problem. I have a document previously developed on my old XP computer that uses the Bickham Script Pro font. It doesn't show up ... it is in the font list, but the text example pane is blank and it is 'invisible' in the document although the text does appear in the Object List. If I use the font in Word, it works fine. Additional checking shows that there are additional fonts that have the same "invisibility" problem .. most of them have a "std" or "pro" suffix ...

I'm not actually sure where the fonts originated because I didn't custom install any fonts (yet) ... anybody else having a CorelDraw/Win7 font problem or care to take a guess at what is happening ..

Thanks!!

Hi, nice to see you!

Others should be able to advise you on Corel Draw, but I can say that fonts with .std or .pro suffixes are most likely OpenType fonts. That may give you a clue.

It appears that CD X3 is fairly recent, and shipped with some OT fonts, so it doesn’t appear to be an obvious format conflict. (OpenType emerged in the very early 2000s and became an ISO standard in 2005.)

Adobe produced fonts with the .pro and .std extensions fairly early in OT development. If you have some of the early ones that were bundled with Adobe products, those formats may have changed in some subtle way that is confusing CD.

Someone else may actually know; I am just guessing.

... those seem to be the fonts that are troublesome, but I had the same fonts (at least the same name) on my old XP computer. I did copy/paste the Bickham font from old computer to new ... didn't help ...

... I think Mr. Murphy just found a new victim .. ??

Thanks!

Running X4 here and have not seen this kind of issue, but there was a hanging problem that an update from Corel seems to have fixed. Might have one for X3....

I Googled for a couple of hours and never found a solution. I really didn't want to upgrade to X4, but I have cdr files going back to '93 and I had no desire to start substituting fonts if my originals didn't work. I downloaded X4 and, as you noted, no problems ... I guess X3 has some Win7 compatibility issues ..

Thanks for the response .. !

But did you look to see if there is a patch for X3 available?

Took a quick look and found a number of patches for X3 -- SP1, SP2 and a Font Navigator patch for example. Of course they might not solve the problem but maybe??? '-}}

Did you check to be sure your font is in the Windows font directory? I discovered on my new Windows 7 computer, that I can't see or use any fonts that aren't residing in the Windows font file.

.. that's the first place I checked and all seemed to be OK. Then I fired up Word, typed in a "Now is the time .. " and used the problem font .. except that it wasn't a problem in Word. So then I upgraded to X4 ... anybody want a copy of X3 (Cristen .. ??) ...
