Default Kindle 2 to ship Feb 24 ’09

As most of us surmised in our recent Kindle discussion, the Kindle that ships this year — beginning February 24 — will be version 2.

The changes sound pretty good: thinner, lighter, more storage (1500 books), faster page turns, 25% longer battery life, greyscale (16 levels), expanded (U.S.) wifi area.

I just ordered one.

Congratulations!

A technerd friend of mine just bought one too, though he already had one of the original models. I'll be interested to learn why. I don't see that there's *that* much difference between the old and new.

But maybe he had more trouble with the badly placed Next button than I did.

The new model's also supposed to do a better job of navigating newspapers and magazines; do give a couple of the mags/papers a trial subscription or buy a single issue and let us know. I could tolerate the couple of magazines I tried on the old one but newspapers were not much fun.
