Default software recommendation

Hi folks,

As an old retired f.....ogy, and having used Print Shop almost forever, I'm wondering if there might be a similar program out there that is compatible with Vista. I realize Broderbund is patching PS version 22 to work with Vista, but maybe it's time to switch to something else. I don't do heavy duty productions, just a simple newsletter, a telephone directory, and some misc signs and cards, so I'm not looking to invest a lot into a professional program. Print Shop served me well .... but wondering if there is something else just as good or better?

Any suggestions?

I've not used any but you might take a look at the Serif line...I know there are some people in the forum who are regular users and maybe one of them will comment...

Terrie,

I remember using Serif many years ago. All I can remember is that they made me mad about something, so I switched to Broderbund. Maybe I'll give them another look, if nothing else pops up, since it's all water under the bridge and they have probably changed hands twenty or thiry time by now.

Thanks for the reply!

I've had that experience with software companies...I hope that it works out for you this time...

I did a quick forum search because I knew someone had mentioned PagePlus recently and found this thread which has a link to a free version of PagePlus SE but I'm not sure it's compatible with Vista--should be easy enough for you to check out--and if it will do what you need. And there is this thread on PagePlus X2 which is Vista certified

You're welome...

Consider using VISTA's excellent Compatibility mode set to XP with SP2, and I usually install with the Runas Administrator option set to ON. Both reachable by right mouse clicking on the installation file and selecting Properties / Compatibility.

Hugh,

Thanks! Didn't know about compatibility mode, but seems to work fine. Got PagePlus9 and looks like it might be what I'm looking for.

Delighted to hear that.

I use Compatibility mode and Run as Administrator a lot, both for myself and in troubleshooting for others on line in the MS VISTA Newsgroup on Print & Fax.

I have Pageplus 9 too and am quite happy with it. I do find that the way docked palettes seem to occupy an unnecessarily enormous amount of screen space but its not really a big problem...just something that annoys me.

If it is any consolation — probably not! — all the DTP software I use has palette explosion disease.

Some allow for shortcuts to open and close the palettes, but then you need to remember all the shortcuts.
