Default Winxp check a Registry entry for me?

Somehow on my new system, my Registry has some odd entries and I've got most of them figured out but there is one that I'm not sure about...

Could someone with WinXP/SP2 who feels comfortable at least looking in the Registry check and see what your system has for the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\New

Is there an entry for "Desktop"? If so, what is in the Data portion?

I have C:\Documents and Settings\useridname

Due to the oddity in my primary user Regsitry, I have created 2 new users one of which I copied my primary user Doc/Settings info to and neither of these users have a "Desktop" entry with the Data value.

I want to figure this out before I make my changes to the Registry to correct the problem...

Thanks!

Terrie

PS...I'm not sure why there is a space in the word "current" in the registry key above...I tried to fix it by editing my post and it won't remove the space...

It may not apply, but in my Win2K I have nothing in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\New (i.e., there's just "(Default)" with no value).

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders does have a Desktop entry (type REG_EXPAND_SZ) with (standard) value %USERPROFILE%\Desktop .

Thank you!!! That's exactly what I needed to know and that's what I thought the value shoud be...

Basically, I've got an extra user that I didn't define and it's somehow gotten intermixed with my primary userid for some bits of the Registry and this was the last piece I need to doublecheck before I make changes to the Registry to the entries back to what they should be...

Thank you...

Terrie

Terrie

My WinXP/SP2 has the same settings as Marjolein. I only have one user.

Same as the others here, Terrie (XP/SP2). Just the Default = "" entry, no Desktop settings.

Any chance you've enabled fast user switching? (= strictly a WAG)

trust me, WAGs are not exclusively a Windows thing. I've had to WAG more times than I care to admit! <G>
