Greetings, folks--
As my thread title indicates, my online life (or lack of same) started with Compuserve, sometime in the '80s. I know several of the DTP Forum people: Kathleen, Elyse, Ann (Filemaker guru!) from the old PubProd and Mac forums. Shane Stanley wrote me a great AppleScript to copy Excel spreadsheet data into an InDesign table (thanks for that, if you're still around here!). I know Robin Springall and DogmanDouglas from Snarkish.com. And I was pleasantly surprised to see Jon Woolf here, from the old CIS Science/Geology forum! Hello to all. I'm an oil & gas geologist in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I have no honest claim to DTP experience, but I've been something of a graphic arts wannabe for years: I love looking at fonts, print layouts, etc. I've edited a club newsletter for about 17 years, and I'm currently doing the design and layout for a special publication (a 200-odd page book) that my club is producing. I've been using Apple hardware since the Apple //e, and currently use a MacBook Pro for most of my work. I also have a Win XP laptop which is used strictly for industry-specific business apps, so my experience on that side is rudimentary at best. I use the Adobe CS apps for my "creative" work. |

Wonderful to see you here, Howard.
Didn’t realize you went back to the Apple ][; so did I. It was only by timely intervention by Lofty Becker on the old Apple forum on CIS that I was prevented from buying a PC or a used Lisa in 1984. Instead I got a 128K Mac, the first of 9 (I just totted them up). Looking forward to having your participation here. __________________ :: |

Hey, Howard! Good to see you!
I only log in here infrequently (I still hate web interfaces for discussion) but it's a fine place. djb (Balderstone, in sunny S'toon) __________________ Member, Saskatchewan Craft Council. Member, Saskatchewan Woodworkers Guild. |

Hey yourself, Dave Balderstone!
I didn't see your name on any of the threads I read, so wasn't sure if you were lurking around or not. Still smarting over the loss of MacNav eh? You'll probably get over it in a few decades ;-) Still at the Western Producer I presume? Cheers! Last edited by Howard Allen; 10-24-2007 at 04:09 PM. Reason: Fixed a typo: this is the DTP forum! |

Yup, still at the Producer. My role has changed over the past few years... I'm no longer on the Tech side, my title is now "Director, Production & Creative Services" and on top of that I'm responsible for our web site & team. It's still a great place to work. __________________ Member, Saskatchewan Craft Council. Member, Saskatchewan Woodworkers Guild. |
