If I have a problem in my crossword (or indeed a reference in a book I am reading) I generally key something into Google.

But apparently I could also use my mobile to Ask Any Question, or to 82ASK, or online there are a stack of sites which will research your anser for you - presumably taking a few minutes to come back to you. Google has a nice list of souirces - including AQA and 82ASK. and online starting with http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/

Amazon.com is now testing Askville. It operates on a similar "ask anything" premise, but turns out to be pretty silly. It relies on the users to provide answers, which means that it is likely to be even less reliable than Wikipedia.

But I find that Wikipedia is often very good. I have registered with them, and tried to contribute, but I can't quite figure out their system. I was trying to add something to a Philadelphia politics article, but I couldn't figure out how to do it. The article was a "stub" article, which might have something to do with my difficulties.

I find Wikipedia helpful, too, but dependent on its authors' passion for accuracy. At least there are editors and there is a common single location for each entry, whereas Askville seems just like a bulletin board or (worse) radio talk show.
