I can see you are doing some research for your new site, I am waiting with baited breath!

If you liked that, you may smirk at my more modest example here:

http://lois.co.uk/web/awesome/wow.html

, and also these wonderful timewasters:

http://budugllydesign.com/
(a longtime favourite of INETPUB regulars), and

http://superbad.com/
(I think we have Marjolein to thank for finding this)

What I find more worrying is sites that look very like these from real designers

Okay, superbad is truly annoying. I'm afraid the other sites are much too entertaining to be like real web sites. They also load much too quickly, finishing all the graphics before I've read to the bottom of the page -- wherever that may be. Navigation is also too obvious on the other sites to annoy, frustrate, and otherwise make you fear for the state of your computer when you've managed to get away from the site.

Genuine web sites not only look bad, they behave every bit as badly too<G>

How about a real life example?

This is a nice little office complex, but their web site is another story (if you are using Opera you can wave goodbye to your session since it will crash)!

Go on, you know you want to!

Believe it or not, this is actually far better than it used to be:

http://www.picture-this.co.uk/

- have a look at the client links at the bottom. E.g.

http://www.picture-this.co.uk/falcon/index.htm

made me laugh: the counter and date are classic.

Apart from the needless entry page which actually has a link, it's Flash-only. And it crashes Opera? Brilliant.

This is what I mean by NOT entertaining me while I jump through hoops for your site. It forced me to use Flash. I had to click on my Flash blocker for the very first page, but while I did something else, expecting something Flash-y to load, it wanted me to click on Enter. Despite the status bar saying it was transferring data, I finally figured to click on a rather pale Enter. Then I waited for another Flash page to load. Then I saw a bunch of squares getting colored in, but they didn't make any sense. They moved for no reason. So why was I being put through this?

This is a real site I'd probably visit because I wanted information, and I'd never want to go again, but if I needed it once, I'd no doubt need it again. <sigh> This doesn't entertain -- it annoys uselessly.
