Default Serif's freebies

Serif have updated the range of software available for nothing at their http://www.freeserifsoftware.com site. It includes an updated free version of PagePlus. It's now called PagePlus SE, based on PagePlus 9. The full link is:

Ah, nice to be back. A broadband connection makes web forums usable.

Does PagePlus default to CMYK nowadays? When I tried an earlier version some years ago it was primarily RGB (you could get CMYK out of it, but it was like wading through treacle). Oh, and it had a habit of forgetting where the pictures went!

I have not checked out the free version, but the full version, now at PagePlus 10. 0.2 certainly can be made to default to CMYK - one simply sets the default palette to CMYK. It's RGB out of the box but changing the default is trivial. It will do press-ready PDf/X1a out of the box, and I've not experienced a missing pic for years.

Hmm. Sounds like it's worth trying out. Thanks, Richard!

Definitely. Don't forget, they do a 30-day money back if not satisfied offer.

Their main site is at http://www.serif.com so take a look at the product info there, then call them as it's often worth haggling with the sales person.

I made the mistake of buying PagePlus years ago: it only cost a tenner but they convinced me to part with over £20 for a printed manual. Trouble is, the printed manual was a scruffy photocopy of the PDF help files that were on the CD anyway, so I feel hard done by Serif! None of our clients have asked me to accept PagePlus yet, but I'll try it and see.

I made the same mistake and now can't get rid of them :-)

It seems that their marketing department is a follower of the maxim 'beat them into submission!' as I get regular mailings and telephone calls whenever they release a new version (which seems to be around every 2 months).
