Default Joyent acquires TextDrive, amicably

According to an announcement on the TextDrive forum, the California company Joyent, which provides web-based team collaboration software, bought web host TextDrive, which was started by Dean Allen, who also developed and supports Textpattern CMS/blogging software. The deal was concluded at the end of November 2005.

The Joyent press release describes both companies and the deal. According to Allen, nothing will change for TextDrive shared-hosting customers except they will get more disk space and bandwidth (nothing to complain of there! — here are the new TextDrive limits and prices) and use of the Joyent e-mail client.

So we shall see how it goes. (I use TextDrive as a host.)

It looks interesting, especially the WebDAV. I really liked having my iDisk on the desktop when I was a .mac subscriber. Is there any access to e-mails that have been stopped by their filters? I'm still losing an occasional valid e-mail at my current hosting service, which is annoying. The latest was my renewal notice for MyComics (and some MyComics e-mails, as well). It was only when I tried to log into my MyComics account that I discovered it had expired. They'd actually sent me a week's comics after the expiry.

I do like the appearance of the hosting pages, too. No doubt done with TextPattern?

I don’t know, as I am barely set up. But they support web mail, which may let you see the filtered mails for a time. I just looked in the support forum, and now gather there is no way to override (or even see) the excluded e-mails. There does seem to be interest in being able to do so, however, so perhaps it will come to pass.

Don’t know, but assume so.

That would be good. I've had no luck with my current hosting company, other than to have them turn the filter off for one e-mail address that was losing some important e-mails.
