Ran across a mention of HVC Color Composer (http://www.master-colors.com/products/) in Layers magazine and it looks pretty interesting...

It's a Photoshop plug-in that "...enhances Photoshop's Color Picker by adding hue, value and chroma controls. The idea is that because artists perceive colors based on hue, brightness (value) and intensity (chroma), they should be able to select colors the same way.

"Choosing colors is fairly straightforward. Clicking on the Hue button shows all the colors with that hue, VAlue shos all the colors with the same brightness, and Chroma shows colors with the same intensity.

"Color Composer's real power lies in its ability to show color relationshops and build swatch palettes base on them." (source: Layers magazine, May/June 2005, page 88)

There is both a mac and pc version (pc version was supposed to be released in Spring 2005 so I assume it's available but it's not really clear on their website)...

Cost: Standard = $49.95 and Professional = $129.95

Considering that it is a PS plugin, the possibility exists that you can use this from within Painter. But not guaranteed, because there are different levels of compatibility.

Do you know of anyone who has tried?

That was my very first thought when I read about it...

No...I've just emailed them asking if they have the pc version ready yet and I also asked them if anyone might have tried to use it in Painter...will let you know what they tell me...
