It really would be nice to have a flag / easy way of showing any new "messages to me" when you enter the Forum. Private Messages are shown up top right, if one notices that <g>, but without email notification which I don't want to use it is chance whether I find new messages to me unless I read all new messages.
Any chance of including this?

Any chance of including this? This sure would be nice. Right now, the software doesn't have the concept of messages being "to" specific people. We believe it can be modified to add that capabilty. The next version of the software--which has undergone a major rewrite-- is now in beta. When that is released, a plug-in that does what you suggest is at the top of my holiday wish list.

I would think that a "reply" could be seen as a message "to" someone.
I too would be more interested in being emailed to any replies to messages I make than in getting emails on an entire thread, of which I might only be interested in a spin off area.

Glad to hear that.
Re Donmcc's point -- some forums I go to, when you reply, allow you to chose email notification to a message reply or any posting in the thread. See the ROXIO user communities, I think.

Particularly when the thread tree shows them as that.

Particularly when the thread tree shows them as that.We know that seems logical, but it isn’t that easy. CIS was brilliant in organizing its message structure so that the sender/recipient link was fundamental.
These PHP/bb forums have an entirely different outlook, and as subscriber/users, we cannot easily subvert their scheme.
We have hopes, however, for the upcoming upgrade. Believe me when I say that having messages addressed not to threads but to individuals is the Holy Grail!

No problem.
This is not a "needed" issue for me. Just a "nice to have" one if it becomes possible.
(How much control do you have over the php source for the forum. I might be persuaded to take a look at it ... in a few weeks, right now I am overloaded)

More than agreed -- but your thread tree is one of the best I've come across.
