Just found out that in celebration of Zone Alarm's birthday, they are offering ZA Pro for free (http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/free/sum/index.html).
Apparently the response has been so overwhelming that when you click on the download button a form pops up to allow you to enter a name and email address so that they can send you can email with the appropriate download link...
The offer expires on November 19, 2009 at 6pm (Pacific)...

I'm green with envy, for I've been paying for eight years; why don't offers get less attractive as time goes on?

I was wondering if one had to pay a renewal fee every year and from what you've said, that appears to be the case. I don't know enough about the Pro version to know if I'd pay a subscription fee but I doubt it.
I've not received an email from them with the link but I think the note said 48 hours so perhaps I'll get it tomorrow...
I'll keep you posted...

But ZA Pro seems to be good, and I've now got two computers covered, although my cable connection is via a router.

Probably worth what you are paying for it!?
Zone Alarm with AV seems to be rated pretty poorly in performance including effect on the system.

Zone Alarm with AV seems to be rated pretty poorly in performance including effect on the system.Rated by whom? I've never seen adverse comment on ZoneAlarm Pro here, but I don't use the ZA security suite; I find F-Pro excellent for anti-virus etc., and over the years it has been rated highly efficacious.
But I was cursing ZoneAlarm's newest update: it was highly prone to AV-blocking, and the update went wrong and blocked all Web sites for several days; it had to be eradicated completely before its influence was removed.

After reading this I decided I should, at least, install the regular Zone Alarm. I stopped using it when I bought the computer I have now. After using it a few days, it reports zero attempts to probe my computer. Also, I have not seen any suspecious programs try to call home. So now I don't feel like a dope for not installing it sooner.
