I am trying to set up my brand new scanner, and cannot figure out how to unlock it.

In the good old days, there was a circular doohickey with a slot it in. Stick a dime in the slot and turn about a quarter around, and done.

This scanner has a plastic shield on the back, next to the USB port. It easily slides a bit (that is how I was able to plug in the USB cord). But evidently it needs to move move, or be removed, to unlock the scanner.

Anyone know what to do, exactly? The Epson instructions give no clue.

Does this page (http://peripherals.consumerelectronicsnet.com/articles/viewarticle.jsp?id=262560) help? Thanks. But no. That is, it refers to the locking gadget as a slider, but it has but two positions so far as I can tell, and in both of those the scanner judders and throws an error message.
