I just bought a new computer, and at the same time, I ordered the Acrobat Pro upgrade to V8 (I have Pro 7 installed on the computer that's being replaced).

The same day that Acrobat shipped, Adobe announced Acrobat 9.

I'm looking for advice from others to determine whether the change from 8 to 9 is significant enough to argue with the vendor (to convince it to take back 8 and give me 9). I saw that Flash objects can be embedded into a PDF with 9, but I can't see I'll ever need that feature.

Would I miss any other new features if I install 8 instead of fighting the battle to try to get 9? ...thanks!

Not that I can advise you on that - but why would it be a battle? Practically every software manufacturer has a Grace period that will give you a free update if a new version comes out within that period, normally something like 3 - 6 months.

In this case, it's the reseller. I made an inquiry, and the representative doesn't seem to be very enthusiastic about the idea.

So go straight to Adobe...
Adobe has no post-announce upgrade offers posted at this time. I've opened a support case.

Let us know what happens. Adobe Acrobat is an expensive tool, and the premium price should mean a free upgrade in these circumstances.

best of luck; ultimately, it does seem that a free upgrade is in order, however, it sounds like it's going to be a bit of a challenge... i look forward to seeing how it works out
