I frequently make 4.25x5.5 "postcards" that I print 4 to a page. In MS Publisher, I could click a button and print 1 per page or 4 per page automatically.
I have searched InDesign but can't find any controls that do this. I don't want to make a template and cut and paste if their is an easier way.
I use the Xerox 8400DP. When I tried to print last night, I did find a box in the printer setup that made me think I could print 4 up. I checked it and a box came up with 4 images in it. When I printed, it only came out printed on 1 side and the front and back of the card was printed on the same side and greatly reduced?
Anyone know what to do?

The printer setup functions come with the printer, so only another Xerox user can help you with that part of it. ID does not have a "step-and-repeat" imposition feature like you describe. This part of a professional job tends to get done at the print shop through special software.
It is fairly easy to make your card in one corner of a page, group it, and then copy and paste into the other three positions.

Don,
Thanks for the reply. That was what I was afraid of. I have been doing cut and paste as you described and it works. Just seems funny that MS Publisher has a neat and useful feature that InDesign doesn't have.
I really like InDesign and have completely switched creating new things in Publisher. ID does give me results I never could achieve in Publisher plus the ability to create PDF files. I had bought Adobe Acrobat and tried to create pdf files from Publisher but there were always problems! Not so with InDesign.
I just use Publisher now to print previously created forms, etc., but to tell you the truth, there are so many things that are much easier to do in Publisher! I wish Adobe would take a look and add a few of those features!

I have not tried this with InDesign myself, but thought I would suggest that you look at an imposition plugin, which might be able to do what you want. There is one called InBooklet from ALAP (http://www.alap.com) that might be worth checking out.
There are also scripts (many of them free) for controlling ID functions. Unfortunately, I cannot find them today — perhaps the Adobe web site is down. If you can raise it, check out the scripts at the share.studio (share.studio.adobe.com) site.
We have some scripting mavens here; maybe one will pop up to give you more specific advice.

Thanks... I'll check them out.
