Hi!
First of all, many apologies to all of you who replied to my last message and then found that I completely ignored you! For some reason I was sitting here expecting to receive an e-mail when I had a reply. I had no e-mails so I assumed I had no replies!

Anyway, on to business. We have just upgraded our Mac G3 from OS8.6 to OS9.2. Acrobat 4.0 Distiller has started misbehaving by not finding fonts which I believe to be available to it. We had to change from Suitcase 3 to Suitcase 10 for the new OS. Do we also have to move to Acobat 5.0 (or later)?

Best wishes, Adrian

And I will come back to check replies!

Hello, Adrian,

I'm sorry you didn't receive an e-mail notification! This option is available in the User CP (Control Panel). Go to Edit Options under Messaging and Notification and check what you have selected in the Default Thread Subsription Mode dropdown. If you choose Instant e-mail notificaton you should receive an e-mail whenever there is a reply in a thread you have started or participated in. If you have it set this way already and are still not receiving any e-mail notifications, please let us know!

I'm sorry I can't help with your Acrobat question, but one of the many Mac folks hereabouts should be along soon.

In the main Distiller screen select the Job Options file which you want to use (presumably the Press file)
In Distiller's Settings menu choose Font Locations and make sure the following three paths are present:
HD:System Folder:Fonts
HD:Applications (Mac OS 9): Adobe Acrobat 4.0:Resource:Font
HD:System Folder:Application Support:Adobe:Fonts:Requrd

In Distiller's Settings menu choose Job Options, then click the Fonts tab.

Turn on Embed All Fonts
Turn off Subset Embedded Fonts (irritating waste of time)
When Embedding Fails choose Cancel Job (only because there isn't an option for Tear Hair Out and Scream!)

Good luck
Robin

Robin,
Many thanks for that. I've tried it with Distiller for both Acrobat 4 and 5, and it seems to work. One (small?) point. I couldn't find
HD:System Folder:Application Support:Adobe:Fonts:Requrd
Does this matter?
Best wishes, Adrian

Franca,

Many thanks. I have now made that change and wait in eager anticipation!

Hmmm. That got me looking around our Macs: that path is only present on my spare machine at home, running OS 9.2.2. Since they all Distill quite satisfactorily I think you can ignore the path if it isn't present. I wonder why it's there on my home computer, though... <g>

Robin,

I think we'll work on the "If it ain't broke ..." principle here. Thanks again.

Best wishes, Adrian
