Molly Ivins was one of my favorite contemporary writers. She was happy to be a troublemaker, and knew how to skewer the powerful and pompous as no one else has. But most of all, she was a ferocious defender of the Bill of Rights throughout her life.
She died January 31, 2007 of what she referred to as a “scorching case of cancer,” first diagnosed in 1989.
John Nichols of The Nation magazine has posted this tribute (http://www.thenation.com/doc/20070219/molly_ivins) to Molly Ivins. The New York Times obituary is here (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/02/01/washington/01ivins.html) with a few of her columns linked to from that page. There is also a tribute (http://www.creators.com/opinion/molly-ivins/archive.html)to her at the Creators Syndicate web site.
