More than likely they did not want to pay a web developer to construct a decent site.

I think the trouble is that they think it _is_ important to have a web site, but don't have a clue to go about it. They won't, or can't, spend the money to do it correctly ... a lot of those look like they were done by the candidate's children.

I wonder if "make a web site" is one of the steps in running a campaign that are supplied by the national parties to the local candidates. So they post a placeholder page, and check off that item.

You would think by now that more would be clued in.

More than likely they did not want to pay a web developer to construct a decent site.Some of them paid an incompetent web developer to construct a bad web site, and even their supporters can't convince them to fix a bad result.

Others just don't have any money, and they get some high school student to create a web site for them, with a poor result.

However, with the principle that there is no such thing as bad publicity, at least a few of these candidates will get some campaign donations as a result of this exposure on a very poplar web site. I note that there are no links to the actual sites, just the URL without a link.

I also noted that two of them actually fixed a few things that were pointed out in CNet's comments.

Probably true, but that doesn't excuse the lack of content on many of the sites.

I have had similar problems with clients, who think that the web developer should write their content. Making it up out of whole cloth, stealing it from other sites, or other excuses to avoid the responsibility of thinking about what they should be saying about themselves, their products or services...
