Anyone looking forward to Acrobat 8? Adobe is already taking advanced orders.

*SIX* different members of the Acrobat family of products?
As though it weren't difficult enough just explaining to people what Acrobat is already.

Looking forward? Nope. I''m starting to feel about Adobe the way I used to feel about Quark, in fact.

The Adobe site says the full product is "From US$ 449" and the upgrade is "From US$ 159" but they don't quite say what "From" means. I suspect the difference is in if you download, or chose a CD, or if you get a manual. Their site is like a lot of software sites, making the prices difficult to find without pretending that you are actually buying. For Acrobat 8, I didn't try the MAC option or the choices involving shipping, which might explain the "From" part of the prices.

But that is the beauty of the web. It is so easy to pretend to buy, and then back out when it is time to give a CC number.

Try walking into a Mercedes dealership and getting a straight answer on what a car costs.

Doesn't the US sales tax vary from state to state? That would explain why the price might vary from what Adobe actually gets of the payment. The UK Adobe Shop says that the price is £139 plus 17.5% VAT.

I didn't buy the Acrobat 7 upgrade from Adobe, but a few months later from someone else: I got it for about £100 instead of Adobe's price of about £150. The upgrade is always on a CD, by the way.

There is another way to buy Acrobat 8. The Creative Suite 2.3 upgrade includes Acrobat 8 (and Dreamweaver) for about the same price as the Acrobat 8 upgrade.
