OptiPaint is a new system that lets you use real paint brushes to paint in Photoshop or other programs that accept Photoshop-compatible plug-ins. You can also use fingers, sponges, or anything else that is light colored and can be wetted and touched to the painting surface. The cost for this device is $2495.

From looking at the galleries, my guess is that dabbing might work but stroking needs a lot of improvement. So there is no competition here to Painter or Project Dogwaffle. But this is still a pretty interesting development that will probably improve. I have not tested it.

Mac version is under development.

Andrew: I have not tested it.

At the price, I can't think why you haven't. LOL Methinks if I've any talent for fingerpainting still, I'll stick with paint, dry and scan.

But I agree. If they manage to get the brush stroke to actually appear as it would on physical media, this could be a very interesting development for artists.

A bit of reinventing the wheel and charging lots of money for the result...I'm not in the least bit impressed with the examples...

Thanks for the heads-up though...
