Hmmmmm... I got a very strange problem...

Suddenly I get "sp" ligatures in my InDesign documents when using Open Type fonts.
I have NOT choosen "Discretionary Ligatures" and it's ONLY the "sp" that becomes a ligature!
It happens in document's that was completely normal before - but also if I open a new document, so it can't be a document setting thing.

The problem accured when I changed computer to the new Apple Intel.
But everything else works just fine, so I'm totally puzzled...

Any idea what this could be????

Yes... I’ve tried only with 2 fonts (Minion & Warnock), but both have the same problem so I guess it applies for all OT fonts.

I'm still waiting for my upgrade of Adobe Creative Suite, hopefully that will solve the problem. But it's VERY odd indeed.

But it is very odd. In the meantime you can work around it by putting a space between the s and p, then kern the p back into its correct position. Ugly, but possible.

Please let us know if the new CS software solves the problem. Oh, and an afterthought — does this also happen in Illustrator?

Thanks Kathleen!

Another odd thing:
I already tried the option to kern "sp" +1 - and it works if you do it manually... but if you use find/change and kern it +1 nothing happens!

And I have typed several novels, each about 200-300 pages, so it will be impossible to do it manually ("sp" is very common in the Swedish language).

The problem does NOT occur in Illustrator... So it must be some InDesign bug.

I guess I have to try to open all documents in my old computer and resave them... It will be quite interesting to see if the "sp" ligature is still there then.

Or I will have to get used to it and pretend it's made on purpose as a special design trick. :-P

Yes!

I managed to get rid of them...
I threw away all InDesign preferences and... voilá!
Stupid me - I should have thought about that from the start.
Anyway... interesting problem.
Thanks for support!
