Ways to liven up multiple photo spreads?

Our newsletter often has sections where I'm asked to include about 10 photos (no text) over a two page spread. I think it looks dull to just line them up in columns. Any other ideas?

I have also seen tricky layouts in which some sort of art is ghosted in the backgrouns (a spiral, say) and the photos kind of tacked to it semi-randomly. I usually find these tricks tedious, but if really well done, it can be interesting.

But in the end, 10 head shots (I assume) with no text will be boring unless you can introduce some variation of some sort.

Thanks, that's a good idea. They're actually all photos of various people being baptized so they get redundant quickly.

One thing that occurs to me is unsual cropping, especially tighter than is common. Another is to embed them in an image of 35 mm film.

My solution would be similar to KTs, play one image large and run the others smaller. This might not be workable in your case, since you can't really choose one baptism to use as the focal point.

So consider making a graphic as the focal point of the page, and then arranging the photos around it. Perhaps an older picture ... one of the ones with good photographic quality, and then photoshop it to give it a special texture or appearance. Grayscale with opacity at 30%, for instance. Then some text to replace the heading. Use that graphic in every issue.

Take a background image, say of a font or a church scene. Using photoshop feather the other images individually and drag them over the background and change the opacity of them slightly so the background shows through.

Another way could be to use masks and get them all to fade into each other.

They're actually all photos of various people being baptized so they get redundant quickly.In that case, how about running them across the bottom of several pages--all at the same height (like 2 1/2") that way they be come a design element, rather than a boring mass. Could also work by running them along the outside edge of several pages--all at the same width.
