When I try to import any CorelDRAW file into Framemaker 7.2, I get the message,
"The filter encountered an error and could not complete the translation."
I've tried everything I could including saving in Corel v12 all the way down to v5.

Don't really have a clue but could you save the file in a different format--TIF? EPS?--and import that way?

Yeah I actually am doing that, exporting the CDR as EPS and it imports fine. Usually the customer likes their files back in the same format, though.

I don't have any experience in with Framemaker but I know there are forum members that do and hopefully, they'll chime in soon...
I'm going to modify the thread title slightly to entice them...

Not many people have got FrameMaker 7.2. I gave up upgrading after 7.1, and of course Mac people had to abandon FM upgrade some time ago.The FM forum should be able to help though.

I've looked up the filters supplied in FrameMaker 7.1; they're said to support CorelDraw only up to v. 7. Probably FM 7.2 filters now cover a more extensive range, but I shouldn't count on it; anyway, you should have a file Filters.pdf, which'll have all the details.

Yeah the PDF I have says the same thing, but the header says Framemaker 7.0 so they must not have changed any of the filters for 7.2. It says it supports CDR from version 3 to 7. However, I tried downsaving my file (opened in CorelDraw 8) to version 7, 6, and 5. None of which were able to import into Frame. :?

Sometimes all the filters import is the preview image that CorelDraw stores in the CDR file. Or doesn't, depending on the user's wishes.
All of the apps I've tried that claim to import CDRs make a hash of it, other than on very simple files.
EPS is your best bet for most things.
