Microsoft have put off the provisional launch date for Vista to November for corporate users and to January 2007 for consumers. See this BBC item. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4831374.stm)

No word yet about the effect this will have on the release of IE7, which was supposed to happen at the same time as Vista.

Since most home PCs are bought around Christmas I can't help but to wonder if this is nothing more than a way to earn money from people on upgrades!

Among the most annoyed, I am hearing, are the hardware and software people who were counting on a new version of Windows to propel next winter’s holiday boom.Maybe that boom will dwindle to a blip with many people postponing purchase of a new computer a few months until Vista is available. Sales curves would then start to resemble a camel's back instead of a dromedary :D

Ooopsie ... and now Office 2007 has left the building. Or rather, won't be leaving the building until after it really does get to be 2007.

Just because the horse tells us he is going to win the race, it doesn't mean that he will actually win the race.

Just because Microsoft tells us when Visita will come out, it doesn't mean that it will actually come out then.

Also, if it does come out at a certain time, it doesn't mean that beta testing, or whatever level they were out then, doesn't continue with a much bigger testing group, the general public.

That is usually the case whoever is selling the software, most of the time it is better to be a version behind...

Todd Bradley, executive vice president of the Personal Systems Group at Hewlett Packard. “A January launch of Windows Vista allows us to execute in a consistent way throughout the holidays, and will provide the right opportunity for a large, exciting launch industrywide after the New Year.”
Sounds to me like he is saying that the holiday season has been executed !
