Hey, I just began to notice little yellow banners popping up when I hover over elements I'm fiddling with in an illustration in Adobe Illustrator CS -- they're ads! Instead of ignoring them as usual (supposing they're simply telling me what I already know about the tool I'm using at the moment), the message of one of them finally registered in my brain and this last one said "Live Paint and Live Trace in Adobe Illustrator CS2 will single-handedly streamline our..."Yes, it ended at the elipsis! So when the heck did they start doing that? Is this some live feed that's coming in to sell me on upgrading?
OK, now I've just clicked on another line in the top of my illo and the banner says:"...links to search, the Adobe Store, and international versions of Adobe.com." And another line clicked at the very top of the illo says "main navigation"; oh, and yet another says "Show solutions link menu" What the heck???

What the heck???There are ads in (free) Adobe reader since the latest major version or so - not just for Adobe products either, Yahoo! toolbar is among them. But they're unobtrusive, samll, and always sit in the same corner of the UI. Given that it's a free product, I don't mind.
But with a paid-for, professional application??? Weird, at least.

Hey, I just began to notice little yellow banners popping up when I hover over elements I'm fiddling with in an illustration in Adobe Illustrator CS -- they're ads! I just did a brief test and got no ads (no anything). Have no idea what may be going on.
I use Illustrator 12.0.1 in OS X 10.4.5 — if that could matter.
Have you quit and relaunched Illustrator? Rebuilt permissions? Restarted your Mac?

Have you quit and relaunched Illustrator? Rebuilt permissions? Restarted your Mac?Well, I did all that (rebuilt permissions late last week, so didn't do it yesterday) and when I quit everything running to restart, lo and behold I found FireFox had opened up somehow underneath Illustrator. Only thing I can think of is that I must've clicked that flower petals button above the selection tools in AI and it launched the Adobe web page for Illustrator. When I moused over items on the page whose locations corresponded with the AI illo elements that gave me the weird little banners, guess what...I got the identical little banners.
How on earth were those labels coming through to and appearing in the application directly, physically above them?? This is very strange...
OK, just tried it again -- on purpose this time -- and, sure enough, FireFox's link labels are coming through in AI CS!

Well, I know where they're coming from now (see my reply to KT), but why they're coming through is still a mystery. Weird!

Report it to Adobe?

Report it to Adobe?Yeah, good idea. It's been so long since I reported any bug to anyone that I'll have to root around on the Adobe site to find how to do it.
No, I cannot imagine it being intentional, because non ad copy labels popped up too, like "main navigation," "In depth," "Adobe bundles:learn more" and "link to view your account information".
OK, just for a test I launched Safari to that same AI web page and then my illo. No problem, no labels. Then, leaving Safari running, I launched FireFox and that page from the petals button in the AI toolbox and no more labels. Huh? Just because Safari was running at the same time?
My brain hurts. To heck with it. I'm going to get some coffee. <g>

I think "both" is the thing to do. Sounds like the two of them need to talk!
