Book Recommendations?

Time to learn more about XHTML and CSS. With Dreamweaver 8 as my primary tool. Ten minutes at Barnes and Noble introduced me to over a dozen titles. Is there any consensus here as to which are really good?

Time to learn more about XHTML and CSS. With Dreamweaver 8 as my primary tool. Ten minutes at Barnes and Noble introduced me to over a dozen titles. Is there any consensus here as to which are really good?I like Elizabeth Castro’s HTML for the World Wide Web with XHTML and CSS — but I code by hand (not with Dream Weaver).

If you do not already have it, Bos & Lie’s Cascading Style Sheets is the essential reference. (They designed CSS.)

Cascading Style Sheets: The definitive guide by Eric Meyer is very useful. Bos & Lie is denser but may (depending on which edition you get) lead you into CSS properties that are not commonly supported; Meyer is very pragmatic and tells you which browsers support what.

Those three are my basic library. If nothing else, they will help you troubleshoot any page that doesn’t validate or work properly. I do not know how good a job Dreamweaver does on its own.

Its index is relatively good, and it also has an appendix of tips for converting from HTML to XHTML.

Eric Myer's Cascading Stylesheets is the most useful reference book I've ever owned.
