I'm just reading Tom Holland's 'Persian Fire' (a Christmas present), which is about the Persian attempt to conquer all Greece in the 5th century BC. I've got to the part in which Holland describes the arising of the new 'democracy' in Athens at the end of the 6th century BC (it hadn't been tried before); it's a fascinating account.

What prompts me to report my present reading, a break from my usual diet of crime novels, is the fact that the book is set in van Krimpen's Spectrum, or at least Monotype's digital version of if. I hadn't seen it it use before.
