When searching (Ctrl F) in PageMaker, is it possible to search for a Tab or a Return and if so, how do I do this?

For example, how would I search for: ing Tab or ,HRt

Thanks.

When searching (Ctrl F) in PageMaker, is it possible to search for a Tab or a Return and if so, how do I do this?As you probably know, you can only search in the story editor.

In the search window, to find a tab, enter ^t; return is ^p.

These are the Mac proxies, but I believe they are the same in the Windows version (and in Word from several years ago, though not the current versions).

If those characters do not work, you can, also in story editor, select an example of what you want to search for and enter that in the search window. Nothing may show in the window but you should get the right results. (It helps if you have story editor set to show invisible characters — makes them easier to select.)

^p worked, thanks.

I could not get it to search for a return the other way (select an example and enter in search window).

Also, how do you set the story editor to show invisible characters? Thanks.

I could not get it to search for a return the other way (select an example and enter in search window). For every paragraph except the last, I believe the ¶ mark contains the return.

Also, how do you set the story editor to show invisible characters?I’m not sure you can. In Preferences > General > More there is a place to choose to have the paragraph marks and styles shown in the story editor, but that’s the only control I can remember.
