Paint Shop Pro 8.1 Color Printing

I have Paint Shop Pro 8.1 on my Windows XP Pro computer, and until recently I have not had any problems printing in color on my HP Deskjet 5740. I had some problems with the replacement color cartridge when the old one ran dry, but now I can print color photos from Picasa2 just fine.

What I can't do is print from PSP 8.1. The preview image shows a black and white image, even though I am preparing to print with the color printer. I do have a HP LaserJet 4 Plus black and white printer, but obviously I select the color printer for color prints.

It seems to me that this is a problem with PSP and not with the printer, since both test pages and color prints through Picasa2 work just fine. Any ideas?

Sometimes it helps to reinstall the driver. Of course, I am talking about how things work on the Mac, but I think printing peculiarities are similar on both platforms.

Good idea, I did that yesterday. The printer does fine from MS Word and from Picasa 2, but not PSP 8.1.

I know it's a silly question, but have you checked the print options?

When you click file, then print, you should get a box like the one below. See attached screen grab.

Also, the version your using, is it 8.01, or version 8.10 because there was a problem with the print dialog in versions prior to 8.10. This is from the change log.

Fixed issue affecting certain Windows 98x and Windows ME systems in which the Print dialog failed to

initialize properly. Systems using Epson and HP color printers were most likely to exhibit this problem.

Good idea, I did that yesterday. The printer does fine from MS Word and from Picasa 2, but not PSP 8.1.Oh, well — just a thought.

Not a silly question about the print options, it is the answer. Somehow the option was set at Monochrome rather than Color, perhaps from having earlier printed on the LJ 4 Plus, an ordinary, and rather old, laser printer. Switching to the color inkjet didn't change the setting.

My version is PSP 8.10, and I am running Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 1, so I avoid the second problem you mention twice over.
