A regular problem in the web and paper publishing world is locating that free-to-use image. Google & Yahoo! searches may show some useful images, but provide no information about copyright, usage restrictions etc. except dor a disclaimer. I usually work on the basis that any image on the web cannot be used elsewhere unless there is a statement to that effect on the same page as the image.

Step forward Yotophoto (http://yotophoto.com/), a search engine indexing free, GNU FDL, Creative Commons & public domain images. Not only are the images shown, but the nature of the licence. A useful and growing resource.

http://www.openclipart.org/index.phpExcellent find! I saw several things there that I could've used in the past year for family projects, but ended up drawing them myself. Had I only known!

You just saved me. My son needed photos for a school project and found teeny, tiny images--then told me to fix them and print them large<sigh> You'd think by now he would have paid enough attention to me to know better. I sent him back on the web to this site and we were both happy. :>)
