Hi!
When I load, e.g. a colour jpg into Mac OSX Preview, it looks fine. When I place it in InDesign CS it looks fine. When I open it in Photoshop CS2, Illustrator CS2 or Acrobat Reader 7.0, all of the colours have become a rather shocking pink. Are there display settings in these programs that I can't find?
Best wishes, Adrian

Check Adobe Bridge for color management settings--I can't give you the specifics because I've not had a chance to install CS2 yet but from what I've read, Bridge will allow you to establish the color mangement settings across the CS2 suite.
Alternatively, in Photoshop, see if Edit > Color Settings is available (because of Bridge I'm not sure it is but I would think it would still be available) and then choose your color management settings there--particularly, what you have set for your working space and color management policies.
This isn't by any chance cmyk jpg is it? From what I've read, they can be somewhat flakey...
Hope this helps...
Terrie
PS...do you have your monitor calibrated?
This isn't by any chance cmyk jpg is it? From what I've read, they can be somewhat flakey...In my experience, InDesign will give weird results with CMYK JPEGs (lots of pure cyan and magenta), whereas Photoshop will display them correctly.

Terrie/Anne,
Thanks for your comments. Rather strangely, since you made them, all of the programs bar Acrobat Reader have started behaving fine, and I've changed nothing! I'll keep an eye on this, and may get back to you some time.

Terrie/Anne,
Then today (Wednesday) they've gone all awry again! Same pics. The only exception being that in the file open preview in Illustrator, they look OK. I'm going to try the various programs with a different set of pics, and see if I can find out what colour settings I should be using.

Are you referring to densitometer reads or what they look like on screen?
If the later, are you using a CRT or LCD?
Does it stay stable throughout the day (regardless of apps)?

Sorry, I seem to have missed your response earlier! The problem is how things look on screen, as they seem to print OK. Acrobat is pretty consistently awful, Bridge, Illustrator and Photoshop sometimes OK, InDesign always OK.

Make sure Acrobat's color management configuration is the same as the others.
They won't behave correctly nor the same if you don't do that (i.e., set up color management correctly and consistently). It's pretty much a don't do it at all or do it right sort of feature. The later being the best course, imo.
Acro 7 right?

curveto,
Right on both counts. But, I only have the Acrobat Reader, and I can't find anywhere to manage its colour settings. Is this not possible with the Reader?

I haven't paid much attention but it wouldn't surprise me if CM were stripped from Reader. 99.999999999999999999999999999999% of the customer base for Reader (that would be the other 400 billion people) don't have a clue wrt CM. I'll wager Reader is simply doing as it's able and/or told.

curveto,
Thanks. It's probably time for me to upgrade anyway. Deep down I knew when I paid for InDesign that I should have gone for the whole lot, but now I've paid for InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop I may as well cough up for Acrobat, too!
Best wishes, Adrian
